“Only the girls learn it,” Iruka-sensei says, and Orochimaru-sama clicks his tongue like he disapproves. “But we have several capable young kunoichi.”

Sakura has the highest marks in calligraphy, higher even than Ino-chan. She has good marks in their painting class, too, and any class that involves holding a pencil. She tells Orochimaru-sama this proudly.

“How wonderful,” he says, and she’s giddy with praise from the legendary war hero.

He wants to see her write, so she does. They go to Iruka-sensei’s desk and both her teacher and Orochimaru-sama watch her. Orochimaru-sama asks her to write smaller and smaller. She does. He praises her.

“Yes,” he says, “I think you’ll do.”

Bookmarker's Notes:

This is so fucking GOOD. Sakura not knowing what's going on as she absorbs Orochimaru's habits and outlook, Sakura slowly losing her outside life to her research . . . Here's a line which very clearly illustrates her outlook near the end of the story:

Orochimaru-sama wouldn’t waste precious resources like children if he didn’t need to. That research must have been important.

I'm in awe. Absolutely perfect. The mad science of it all tickled me.

“You can’t speak,” he says for Deku, and feels the other boy’s head move in an exaggerated nod.

This, Katsuki thinks, is pretty fucking bad.

Katsuki is blinded. Izuku is muted. Both of them are kidnapped. Things get worse.

Fantastic fantastic fic that I've been procrastinating my read of since The Natural Habitat. I've said it before and I'll say it again but Tozette excels at portraying the interactions between women who are less normal than they appear and absolutely unhinged men. Beautiful fic that comes across as pretty damn believable within the boundaries of canon. Sakura finding her new equilibrium while sorting through torment and claiming it as her own was cathartic to me. Very strange to say, but I'm so incredibly grateful for Hidan's stabilizing presence in this fic. I adore them.

This fic – specifically the final scene – made me cry. Visceral, cathartic fic.

Minori has always been one of my favorite MP100 characters, though the horror of her story remains largely unexplored in canon, which works amazingly in a canon focused on Mob, but I still love her and appreciate getting more pieces of the puzzle that is Asagiri Minori. This fic did her justice in a way I can't fully articulate. Most of the fandom seems to fall into the trap of wanting to choose between letting her be a bully and a sad, manipulated girl, but this fic balanced those parts of her brilliantly and with a great deal of respect. Minori wasn't entirely helpless in this fic, but she's also not in control, and she doesn't know how to come to terms with it. A flawless read that will have a place in my heart forever.

This is an actual literary masterpiece that captured Dirk's voice perfectly; truly goes to show that some things are classics for a reason. I read this straight through in September 2023 and then spent most of July 2024 listening to this marvelous Detective Pony audiobook to fall asleep. Highly recommend. Your dreams will be insane.
