Some of the most haunting prose I've ever read. The imagery of decay is fantastic, extremely vivid.

You would not be able to convince me that this wouldn't be how this would happen. I knew what was coming and I was still sucker-punched in the gut - if anything, knowing what was coming made this hurt a lot worse. Sasori's recollections were so accurate, and when he turns around . . . I won't spoil it too much. I love love love the part where Deidara disapproves of the puppet made in his likeness. Sasori KNOWS you can't convince me that he doesn't. Vague mumbling.

A spin-off of a fic where Near is a child prostitute and L gets him out of the brothel and into the Wammy house. I love this style of writing from Near's perspective, this is definitely up there with "His Reassuring Visions Were The Pillars Of Your Faith", also by this author. It's one of those fics that I'll be thinking about for a while for the way it haunted me and hollowed me out.

Hands down one of the fics nearest and dearest to my heart. I devoured it in what amounts to a day, which is unprecedented for me. Despite this, I need to warn that the ending is incongruent and sudden, and that there are a LOT of loose ends that will never be tied up. If you can sacrifice a little bit of narrative satisfaction for the best modern AU Akatsuki I could imagine, this should be your jam!! Otherwise, you should probably look elsewhere.

(Also note that this is what woke the SakuAkatsuki shipper in me. There's some sort of love square going on in here and it's TASTY.)

The fine line between love and hatred and violence is walked so neatly here. Sasori's voice is so in character. I love quiet Deidara at the beginning, he's so clever and everyone seems to forget it because he's also impulsive. It would make sense that he would take time to scope out his new partner.

The injury scene was achingly sweet, it reminds me of a canon line where Deidara references Sasori chastising him for not being prepared/careful enough which like?? It gets me every single time. Their discussions on art being so detailed that they've exhausted every topic? And yet they still argue? At that point it's a love language.

And Sasori trying to hard not to care. Lovely lovely lovely. He may have a strange way of taking care of his loved ones, but it's caretaking nonetheless. Sasori training Deidara is canon to me now. Sasori's discomfort with just . . . not knowing things. Deidara is a mystery to him and that fascinates him! The chakra strings, the way he always comes close to snapping but something stops him every time, Deidara's nonchalance to the point where you can't tell if he actually has no regard for his life, and that scene at the end. OUCH. I always think about the irony of Deidara outliving Sasori, it makes me so sad and this didn't help. Fluff with the promise of canon events getting in the way always gets me. I'm rambling now but god this one's going to stick with me.
