Ju Ying, a tsundere brothel-worker with a strong but underdeveloped foundation and some sort of mysterious backstory involving a dead teacher, was absolutely not one of Luo Binghe's wives. Ju Ying, with her intense gaze and her kind hands and her beautiful, calculating eyes, never crossed Luo Binghe's path in the novel. Shen Qingqiu would definitely remember. She would have been in his top five. Maybe at the top of his top five; he would have been screaming in the comments for her to get a better arc, for Airplane not to just shove her in the back of the harem to waste away into nothing. Maybe, Shen Qingqiu thought, she would have been his favorite.

I loved Shen Yuan's sense of humor, and I loved Shang Qinghua's characterization on the whole. Prepare to laugh out loud.

This fic was extremely, frighteningly in character, and a somber portrayal of the cycles of mistrust, abuse, and codependency at the crossroads of dissolution of self and surrendering to someone else's complete control. The love that tied it all together was the best and worst part. Deeply and delightfully nauseating read.

"In fact, I think we've both done enough work for the night," Jin Guangyao says. He has the two needles tucked into the fitted cuff of his sleeve. "Go on back to the disciple quarters. A-Su will be wondering where I am if I don't join her in the garden soon."
